Playboy Magazine has a long history of being involved in censorship controversies. In 2001, Playboy Media famously refused to run the "Feel Good" photo spread from Larry Clark's controversial film "KIDS". In 2004, Playboy publisher Hugh Hefner was sued for $300 million by actress Elizabeth Hurley who claimed she had been misled into posing naked for an edition of the magazine that Hefner had said was strictly editorial. The lawsuit was settled out of court in 2006 for an undisclosed amount. In June 2005, Playboy was to release a special issue titled "Naked as we came: the nude issue" that would feature celebrities such as Carmen Electra and Paris Hilton. However, to avoid controversy and further legal action the issue was released without the "nude" label and instead promoted as "freedom of expression" issue. As a result of this incident Playboy has never released another so-called "nude" edition ever since and all celebrity pictorials are published in fully clothed form. In 2008, Playboy Magazine signed a deal with Marvel Comics for exclusive comic book rights to original characters featured in stories that appear in the monthly issues of Playboy Magazine.
